Senior's Week - June 3-9

This week, June 3-9th is Seniors Week in celebrating all that our seniors have contributed to the development of our community.

As a Naturopathic Physician who focuses on Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, my goal is to optimize the health of the seniors and to bridge the accessibility of health for this population.

I work with my patients with Alzheimer’s Disease to decipher the underlying contributors that develop cognitive decline. By removing these obstacles, we allow the body to better function optimally. We now are starting to know that these obstacles can be identified as inflammation, imbalanced blood sugar levels, hormonal imbalances, toxins and heavy metals. By doing a thorough history intake and focused lab and functional testing, we get to know the big picture of the body.

I also volunteer at the Seniors’ Wellness Clinics in Richmond providing reflexology for the seniors. These clinics occur once a month at the various community centres that provide blood pressure and blood sugar readings as well as holistic treatments including chair massage and shiatsu, reflexology, manicures and pedicures, reiki and facials. My intention is with the wellness clinics to reduce barriers for seniors to access these services throughout the community.

The Seniors’ Wellness Clinics in Richmond in 2018 reached a total of 5,592 seniors including 3,526 holistic health treatments, 1,673 blood pressure drop-ins and 393 blood glucose drop-ins – this is truly amazing!

I invite you to join us in supporting the seniors this week through several programs. Join me in my talk on Gut Health and Parkinson’s Disease at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre at Steveston Community Centre on Wednesday, June 5th at 1:00pm!

Join me this week with my blog posts geared towards Seniors’ health.
