Vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin as we get it from the sun, is something to really consider right now during the fall and winter months. It is produced in our skin in response to sunlight. A large study published in Neurology showed that people with extremely low blood levels of vitamin D were more than twice as likely as those with normal vitamin D levels to develop Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia.

Vitamin D isn’t just needed for bone health, it’s also needed for brain health! In a study done by Chai et al. (2019), not only there are significant associations between vitamin D deficiency and risk of dementia, risk of dementia was reduced with increased vitamin D levels.

It may be a very good idea to get our vitamin D checked as we’re in the northern hemisphere and are not getting much exposure to sunlight now. Supplementing vitamin D is not enough – by testing vitamin D, we can also determine how much you’ll need to start on for therapeutic effect.

Let’s get your vitamin D tested! Book a 15-minute Meet and Greet and let’s talk and see how I can help you with your brain health!
